fire batik - Textile Burnworks Experimental textile work, 2023–ongoing
Ildbatik is created through a controlled encounter between fabric and flame. A piece of silk is carefully folded, compressed and tightened before being exposed to a gas burner. The fire leaves burn marks, holes and patterns that echo the logic of batik, yet emerge through heat rather than dye.
After the burning, the fabric is unfolded with precision and mounted on a backing of reflective or fiberglass material, creating a contrast between the fragile, scorched textile and the cool, industrial support. The result is a work that balances control and accident—an imprint of fire, structure and transformation.
